'Role of English in higher education and its impact on graduate employability

On 16-17 October the British Council in partnership with the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialised Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan organized the 'Role of English in higher education and its impact on graduate employability' international policy forum engaging 125 policy makers and practitioners from Uzbekistan, UK, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, and Ukraine as part of our regional Higher Education for Employability programme.
This conference was the first of a series of three annual policy forums to share experience, good practice, and lessons learned. This first event aimed to explore how we can increase higher education institutions’ capacity to respond to a growing need to engage internationally, play a role in the global knowledge economy, and engage in research collaborations across borders through improving the English ability of their faculty, students and staff. Two representatives from Urgench state university including the rector of the university, Doctor of physics and mathematics Abdullaev Bakhrom Ismailovich, and Doctor of philosophy, Professor Ermetova Jamila Ismoilovna attended the conference and actively participated in this important event by having established professional relationships with colleagues from foreign institutions and setting action plans and goals in developing EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) at Urgench state university.
