The history of the Department of Chemistry
In 1992, on the basis of Urgench State Pedagogical Institute, created Urgench State University. The department was established in 1992 in the Faculty of Natural Sciences as the Department of "Chemistry", and in the Chemical Engineering Department as the Department "General and Inorganic Chemistry." "Chemistry" in 1992-1994, led by Professor B.Sodikov and chair "General and Inorganic Chemistry" Ph.D., assistant professor K. Sobirov. In 1994, the Department of "Chemistry" and "General and Inorganic Chemistry" united in one department "General Chemistry" within the Faculty of Natural Sciences. Department was headed by assistant professor K.Sobirov (1994-1999 and 2000-2006), assistant professor A.Matyakubov (1999-2000 years).

In 2006, the Faculty of Natural Sciences separated the Faculty of Chemical Technology. From 28 August 2006 to 29 August 2011 Department of "General Chemistry" functioned in the Chemical Engineering Department. On July 6, 2006 to August 29, 2011 headed the Department assistant professor E. Eshchanov, and before August 29, 2012 assistant professor X.Polvonov. From August 2012 to August 2015 the head of the department of Ph.D. Hasanov S. In August 2015 the department of "General Chemistry" was renamed the Department of "Chemistry". Currently the chair of c.ch.s. Hasanov Sh.

In 2017, Associate Professor H. Azizjanov and in 2018, Assoc. M. Baltayeva was the head of the department. From 2019 to the present, E.U Eshchanov has been working as the head of the department.

In the period 1992-1999 at the Department of the graduates as a chemist. Teacher. In 1999 to present Department released bachelor's degree in Chemistry and 5440400-5140500-chemistry.
In 2003-2007, the department trained 12 master's on 5A440403-Organic Chemistry. Three of them are currently working in the department. Since 2014 the department issued undergraduates majoring 5A140501-Chemistry (Inorganic Chemistry). In the 2015-2016 academic year, finished magistracy 5 masters, three of them are working at the department.
Since the establishment of the department is doing a great job in attracting teachers with doctorates. During the creation of Urgench State University in the department were 2 teachers with a scientific degree: Professor Sodikov B.A. and Ph.D., assistant professor A. Matyakubov. In 1992 to work in the department were taken 2 teachers with a scientific degree Eshchanov R. and K. Sobirov.
In the years 1992-2006 Dean of Natural History, teacher of "General Chemistry" assistant professor R. Eshchanov made a significant contribution to strengthening the scientific capacity of the department. On his initiative, in 2005 the department had taken two more specialists with scientific degrees assistant-professor Abdurakhmanova T. and B. Ibodullaev.
However, the involvement of the scientific work of young specialists of the Department also brought results. Teachers working in the department, they nevertheless conducted research as candidates, defended his thesis and contributed to strengthening the scientific capacity of the department. During 2004-2021, the department had 8 candidates of sciences (D. Dushamov in 2004, E. Eshchanov in 2005, M.Boltaeva in 2007, Y. Tokhirov and Sh. Khasanov in 2008) and 5 PhDs (X.Rajabov 2019, R.Usmanov 2020, S.Sadikova, Z.Abdullayeva and H.Ismailova 2021).
The department conducts research and development in 11 areas:
1. "Study of the properties of natural high-molecular compounds and the application of materials based on them."
2. "Study of electrophilic exchange reactions of heterocyclic compounds and biological activity of synthesized substances".
3. "Improvement of chemistry teaching in the system of continuing education"
4. "Synthesis of new types of coordination compounds and study of their significance"
5. "Extraction of biologically active substances from natural sources, study of their properties"
6. Production of sorbents with high sorption properties on the basis of industrial wastes "
7. "Development of alternative options for qualitative and quantitative analysis of ions present in different media"
8. "Development of alternative methods for the synthesis of new organic compounds"
9. Development of new methods for the synthesis of nanoparticles and the study of the properties of nanoparticles.
10. "Synthesis of new coordination compounds based on tribochemical methods"
11. "Purification of vegetable oils using sorbents obtained on the basis of local waste"
Research work in these destinations are conducted jointly with the Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Khorezm Mamun Academy.
26 experienced teachers are teaching in the department. Of these, one doctor of sciences, ten candidates of sciences, seven associate professors, three senior teachers and there are 15 teachers in the position of assistant.
In recent years teachers and talented students of the department have been actively involved in various contests, innovative fairs. Particularly, in 2015, the second-year graduate A.Rozmetov won the Presidential Scholarship competition on natural sciences. A. Shigabutdinov, the 3rd-year student has been awarded second place in the Republican Olympiad in 2017, 2018, 2019.
At the time, teachers of the department conduct research in close contact with scientists of Khorezm Academy of Mamun.
