Today, on February 4, a scientific and theoretical seminar entitled “Semantic Analysis of Sanskrit Loanwords” was held at the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology of the Faculty of Foreign Philology of Abu Rayhon Beruni Urgench State University.

The seminar was attended by the academic staff of the department.

During the seminar, the speaker — Associate Professor of the department, PhD Dilnoza Alimboyevna Jumaniyazova — highlighted the origin of lexical units borrowed from Sanskrit, their semantic development, as well as their place and role in the modern language system. The presentation analyzed the original meanings of Sanskrit loanwords and the semantic changes that occurred over time, such as semantic broadening, narrowing, and semantic shift, illustrated with relevant examples.

The seminar participants engaged in an active discussion on the topic and emphasized that the semantic study of Sanskrit loanwords is one of the most relevant and promising research areas in contemporary linguistics.
